A Little Reminder…

It’s the beginning of a new year. For me, it literally is a new year since my birthday occurs in two days (GULP). Once again, I find myself evaluating my last year of life and can tell you that I still have not found that housekeeping efficiency gene, nor have I felt compelled to clean my walls for the fun of it. Ever. I can tell you that this year I still do want to improve on this crazy job of being a mommy and wife, but most importantly, I want to improve on the relationship side. Tasks will always overwhelm me. It’s how I’m wired, but I don’t want irritability to replace patience when my kids need me, nor frustration when my husband wants to spend time with me. This poem is highly appropriate, don’t you think?? May it encourage you as it has me today.

Song for a Fifth Child

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
and out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
but I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

How Can I Keep From Singing…

A friend just posted this version on Facebook. I love the harmonies and love the lyrics even more.

“Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
How can I keep from singing?”

FREE CoverGirl Blush at Walmart!

In today’s paper (10/2) you should have received the P&G Coupon Insert. Inside is an $8/2 FACE PRODUCT coupon. Face products have been defined as foundation, concealer, powder and blush. The CG Cheekers blush is priced at $3.97 each at my Walmart. In other regions I’ve heard it priced even less. I made 3 cents off of each blush I “bought” today. I had three coupons so I bought six blushes FOR FREE AND had change to apply to my other items. Go get a paper if you haven’t, yet! One compact of blush will more than pay for the money you spend on the paper and you will walk out with two of them! :-) You may just want to buy two of them if you like CoverGirl Blush! I have some rockin’ ladies in my church who hook me up with the coupons they don’t use so I only buy one paper.

Educational Tip

We’ve been downloading some of the free on-line printable resources for preschool and Kindergarten aged children that MoneySavingMom alerted me to. I tried them out today, hoping they will work for Ella’s Busy Bag at church during the sermon. She begged to start working with them today while Ezra napped! Here, Ella is rolling a die and graphing her results. The pattern for the die is included in the printable pack. We printed it on card stock, cut it out, folded it and taped. A spinner is another alternative in the pack. She is having so much fun. A sheet protector turns a resource into a reusable one! I now have a binder full of sheet protected activities. All Ella needs are some dry erase markers and some tissues for erasing. We found some cheap dry erase markers in the $1 Spot at Target. Cheap, educational, and fun! What more could you ask for!?! Did I mention that this one is also QUIET!?!

What are your favorite Busy Bag Activities? What are some great tips to help activities be used more than once???
