Rainy Day today!

We had some rain this morning so everything is wet. That’s okay because we need it desperately. But, what do you tell your two-year-old when she could live on the slide at the church playground? I admit, that I am not great about getting her outside long enough each day—maybe if I got better at cleaning my house, I wouldn’t have fifteen things to do first before we go out. Of course, I usually just give up and take her out at some point, but I need to do more creative things with her. Any ideas? There is sidewalk chalk and bubbles…we have those, but what else?

While we’re at it, what are some great indoor things for two-year-olds to do? You can only watch so many Veggie Tales and Backyardigans before going insane, even if I do know all of the lyrics to most of them!

Does she have a bike or anything yet? Or like a big wheels? I know she is still young, but Hattie and Draven loved and still love riding there bikes outside.

Im sure Jon and Kate have some marvelous indoor and outdoor activities for young children!

Ahh…I know I’m sooo much older than you are but it’s refreshing to know that we are going thru the same things! tee/hee I too struggle with getting the kids outside when there is SO much to do inside. And you do just have to let it go and get out there…but it’s hard to do, I know. I babysit during the day so Joseph has a playmate, a bit younger, but someone to give him more entertainment than just me!! That helps out bunches.

BTW…I enjoy your blog so much. I have to say, you got me started on Walgreens/CVS. It’s been so fun to hunt down the good deals. Every little bit saved helps me to stay at home longer with the kiddos!! :)

Ok, good ahead and say…yes, this comes from the person who works at a library….check your library and see what programs they have for 2 yr olds and go check out some fun books to share on rainy afternoons. Ben used to listen to the Bullfrogs and Butterflys and all those fun records…yes I said records!! and the read-along stories too. We had alot of the Disney stories. Fox and the Hound the favorite. That’s all I got, had to search the 26 year old memory bank for those!

I was just thinking about this again this morning while debating on whether to get up and start the day.
Let Ella help in the kitchen and bake some cookies or cupcakes and then have a tea party. Or save tea parties for those raining or coming soon cold winter days.
There is also a game called “hide the thimble” that we used to play for hours. Course you can use whatever.
Just some thoughts that went racing through my head this morning and I need to send before I forget!!
    Love ya,

I believe it is important for children to be outside daily for even a few minutes when possible. They get great exercise outside, along with vitamin D from the sunshine. (And it will help her to take great naps and sleep good at night.)

It’s been so hot lately, so running through a sprinkler outside would be great fun for Ella and you! It would also be great for the dry grass.

Jess, I can remember bringing a couple baskets of cloths outside to fold while you and Jaymie played in the swimming pool when you were little like Ella. Or use this time to work on your couponing outside while she plays. All you need is a lawn chair to sit in or sit in your white swing while you coupon.

    Love you,
    MOM

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone! Jenn, you’re right about the degree, but I always used patterns for everything in my classroom. My drawing is atrocious…hilarious, at best. I always relied on others’ ways of executing a craft project. That’s why I need the ideas! :-)
